Silkie Showgirl Chicken
Welcome to the captivating world of Silkie Showgirls, the charming bantam chickens with a unique twist! With their endearing naked neck and gentle nature, these small fowls make delightful pets, quickly adapting to human attention and handling.
Silkie Showgirl chickens are a unique and interesting variety of chickens known for their distinctive appearance. They are a crossbreed between two popular chicken breeds: the Silkie and the Naked Neck (also known as Showgirl or Turkens). The Silkie breed is known for its fluffy, soft feathers, and the Naked Neck breed is characterized by its featherless neck and head.
The result of this crossbreeding is a bird with a mix of characteristics from both parent breeds. Silkie Showgirls typically have the featherless or partially featherless neck and head of the Naked Neck breed, while their body feathers may be fluffy and silk-like as seen in Silkies.
You’ll be amazed to find that even the males possess maternal tendencies, lovingly calling and guiding the adorable chicks to tasty treats. And don’t worry, they all get along harmoniously in our cozy flock. All our chickens are thoughtfully vaccinated for Marek’s Disease and raised on a Non-GMO diet, ensuring their health and well-being.
Silkie Showgirls are more than just ornamental treasures; they’re an experience of joy and companionship for families. While they may not lay eggs as prolifically as commercial breeds, they compensate with their dependability when in the laying cycle. While Silkie Showgirls may hold a lower rank in the pecking order, their endering nature makes up for it! Silkie Showgirls are known for being “broody” which means they are excellent egg sitters, or hens will sit on eggs to hatch, making them the ideal choice for anyone in need of an expert egg-hatcher.
Rain or shine, Silkie Showgirls embrace all weather, dancing playfully in the rain with their fluff protecting them from the elements. In chilly climates, extra care must be given, though we pamper them with ample space and warmth during the snowy winters. In the heat they do well and we offer several options for staying cool.
Silkie Showgirls boast an alluring crest, walnut comb, and a striking features: five toes and exquisitely feathered legs and outrageous looks! With multiple color patterns, including silkied, frizzled, and smooth feathering, they’re true marvels of nature. Though we cannot guarantee specific color variations, be assured, they are all uniquely beautiful.
If ordering silkie showgirl hatching eggs, the chance of hatching all showgirls is 50/50. We suggest ordering more than you need or receiving chicks so you are guaranteed all showgirls.

Sexing Silkies: We understand that determining the sex of Silkies is a challenge challenge, and we don’t offer sexing services to avoid any heartbreak. But worry not, if you end up with a male, there are plenty of eager chicken enthusiasts willing to welcome these lovely additions to their flocks. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Silkie Chick Care:Silkie Showgirls require a little more TLC and tend to grow at their own pace.. We like to keep all Silkie Showgirls with other bantam chicks separate in the brooder from larger chicks in the beginning due to their smaller size. We highly recommend giving them Oil of Oregano to help with their gut development and health. We refrain from shipping newborn Silkie Showgirls, giving them ample time to develop before embarking on their new adventure.
History
The date and place of origin of the Silkies is not known, however Marco Polo wrote of the fur-covered fowl with black skin during his journeys to China in the 13th century…hmmm. It is safe to assume that Silkies had been around quite a while before Marco Polo. The Silkie of that time and the modern Silkie do not resemble each other in many other respects, being that the ancient Silkies evidently did not have leg feathering or any crest to speak of. As a matter of fact, the Silkie seen in the showroom today has changed considerably in the last 30 to 40 years. Their crests are larger and the feathering down the legs is more abundant than seen previously. Also a larger variety of colors are found today. The original Silkies were white only, today there are several color patterns. Bearded and non bearded varieties.
Feed Recommendations: we recommend starting baby chicks out with Sugar Feather Farm chick starter for the first 3 weeks, then switch to our Chicken Grower. Use the Grower Feed until they hit maturation (which is when they start to lay) then switch to Sugar Feather Farm Adult Feed.
We highly recommend using the Oil of Oregano in their water daily as a supplement to aid with digestion and overall health.
