Why do ratites need a special feed?

The energy in most poultry diets is formulated higher than what a ratite would need. This can lead to obesity, especially in ostriches. Most poultry diets are also lower in fiber than what a ratite would require. The higher fiber in a ratite diet will help them maintain digestive health and ideal weight. Finally, ratite rations are formulated with a higher amount of minerals, to support structural growth.

What makes our feed superior to other feeds?

Custom designed by experts in the field. We have the appropriate levels of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals to support development for these types of birds.

How is leg growth supported with our feed?

Having strong legs is KEY in ratite feeds. Leg growth and stability is supported by higher mineral amounts in feed.

How is feed stored without a crop?

In ratites, feed forage and function is provided by an elongated “proventriculus.” In chickens and other fowl, this is the space between the crop and gizzard. In ratites, the proventriculus is larger, and provides similar functions.

Use:

Feed to ratites from hatch until adult weight is reached. This feed is also suitable for adult breeding ratites. Free feed growing birds. Feed adult birds 1.5 pounds per day, if measuring. Use as a complete feed. Ensure access to fresh/clean water. Provide grit on the side.

Fresh Feed is key!

Our feed company does not add any preservatives, it is FRESH. It is freshly made everything to order to ensure you as a customer get the longest shelf life out of the product. The fresher the feed the better, by having feed fresh you capture all the nutrients so the birds actually get those vitamins and minerals at their peak. Our nutritionists sees the best results if feed is used within a month of manufacturing.  Our farm ensures the feed here is always within that 30 day or less window. We make sure all our feeds are in tightly sealed containers to ensure freshness and longevity.

The feed is a mix of ground and cracked grains, they are not made into pellets for a reason. Many times, there is additives and preservatives to create the pellets. We prefer it as a mix for this reason.  Our birds love the feed and are doing very well on it, with some amazing changes like better feather growth, feather coloring, overall larger bird and performance. There is never any left over feed with our ratites.

For shipping:

The feed is available in quantities of 20lbs. This will be shipped via USPS using flat rate pricing. We tried to find the most economical pricing out there.

Bulk pricing on quantities over 10 40/50lb bags can be arranged – see here for bulk ordering

For pick-up:

We will have 50lbs and 5 lb increments for purchase. All bags we order are 50lb bags.

Storage: keep the feed in an airtight storage container away from heat and wet conditions. This will ensure the longevity of the feed and optimal freshness.
