Occasionally and seasonally, we have some of our duck breeds together socializing, eating and exploring. During this time we don’t monitor breeding and will have lots of surprise duckling colors! These can be combinations of our breeds we have or pure, you never know. The combinations are beautiful, they posses all the same qualities of our other breeds just coloring’s will be a surprise! All good layers, hardy and wonderful additions to your homestead. Want to give ducks a try? You can start this way. They can be a combinations of the following:
- Silver Appleyard
- Cuyuga
- Khaki Campbell
- Buff Orpington
- Swedish Black
We don’t offer sexing of the ducklings. We feel it is not in the best interest of the ducklings. All ducklings are special and we are saddened when only drakes are left on the farm. Drakes provide companionship, flock balance and they make almost no sound!
Feed Recommendations: we recommend starting baby waterfowl out with Sugar Feather Farm chick and waterfowl starter for the first 3 weeks, then switch to our Waterfowl Grower. Use the Grower Feed until they hit maturation (which is when they start to lay) then switch to Sugar Feather Farm Adult Feed.Â
We highly recommend using the Oil of Oregano in their water daily as a supplement to aid with digestion and overall health.
Why have ducks?
- Excellent foragers
- Lay MORE eggs than chickens egg also has more protein
- Eggs great for baking (a cooks secret weapon)
- Don’t get as many diseases or issues as other fowl
- Love the cold, rain. Will be happy in it compared to other birds.
- Don’t need a pond. just provide a water source, fresh clean water daily
Pre-ordered adults and hatchlings may be picked up by appointment. To safeguard our birds from exposure to disease brought in by visitors, in accordance with the provisions of the National Poultry Improvement Plan, areas where birds are kept are off limits. However you are welcome to look at all the breeds and interactions, it is a site to see.
